The Wellston Fire Department does various Fire Safety lectures and classes to a variety of groups and a range of ages. We regularly do talks to Cub Scouts, pre school classes and anytime contacted if available. We also offer Trainings to the community and it’s businesses, such as work place fire safety and fire extinguisher training.

National Fire Prevention Week is always a busy one for Wellston firefighters.  On average our Fire Prevention Week schedule consists of 5 schools, 5 days, 7 grades and 800 students which always give us a good workout.  Our presentations typically start out with "A Firefighter's Toolbox," which included discussion about fire alarms, matches, candles and smoke detectors.  FFs then cover numerous topics including: "Always Know 2 Ways Out," "Get Low and Go," "Get Out and Stay Out" and "Stop, Drop and Roll." We also understand that the same program year after year loses the interests of the older kids so we do switch things up, primarily with the older students we give them the responsibility of becoming the “teachers”. We ask them that they pass on the vast amount of fire safety knowledge they have accumulated over the past few years to their younger siblings and relatives. We even urge them to update parents on fire safety. The presentation ends with one of the teachers donning all of the firefighter's gear.  This is to demonstrate that even though we may look and sound scary to children, we are always there to help!  And, of course, all the students receive some goodies, including their own Wellston "Fire Chief" helmet.

FPW is a great experience for FFs and students alike and it wouldn't be successful without the assistance of the FFs and the Wellston City Schools.  Thanks to all the school staff, students and FFs for making Fire Prevention Week a huge success year after year.
